Using the forum. By registering on this forum, you agree to use it properly, and to refrain from posting any content that is aggressive, offensive, defamatory, hateful, or in violation of applicable laws and regulations. You agree not to post messages inciting or evoking illegal practices, or violating the terms of use of the service.

The moderators and administrators of this forum will do their best to delete or edit any reprehensible messages that may be posted on the forum. You acknowledge that all messages posted on this forum express the opinion of their respective authors, and do not necessarily reflect the position of the moderators and administrators.

In order to ensure the moderation of this forum, any message violating the preceding provisions may be edited or deleted without notice by the moderators and administrators of the forum. Any abuse may also be sanctioned by banning or deleting the user account. We reserve the right to inform your access provider and/or the judicial authorities of any malicious behaviour.

Your personal data. By registering on this forum, you agree that it may collect some of your personal data. This data collection is done either through the information you provide us, or through the use of the services itself, for technical data used for the forum proper functioning. You can access, modify or delete your data at any time. Users under 16 years old certify that they have obtained the consent of their legal guardian in order to proceed with this registration. In addition to the forumotion.com rules, please follow the WVW Writing Forum rules and guidelines. These rules are in place to ensure the forum is a place where writers can meet and discuss the world of writing in a safe and constructive manner. RULES are strictly enforced, and GUIDELINES provide a basic framework for behavior on the forum. Penalties for excessive abuse of rules or guidelines will be the same, up to and including temporary or permanent bans from the forum.

RULES

• Plagiarism: All work posted on the forum must be the creation of the author. Once the material has been posted it is the sole property of the author and may not be used without permission for any reason unless the material is quoted for the sake of discussion. Anyone found to be using work without permission or claiming another author’s work as his or her own, from this site or any other, will be immediately banned without discussion, and could also have West Virginia Writers, Inc. membership revoked. We are all writers and take our work very seriously. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.

•Excessively Violent, Erotic and Pornographic Material: While censorship is not something any writer would want to deal with, please keep in mind this is a public forum, and as such the forum may be visited by those under the age of 18. We understand the need to express yourself and to write the material you enjoy, but it must be to a reasonable degree. If your material requires these elements, and they are not excessive, please include a disclaimer in the thread name to warn the reader. Anything deemed to be excessively violent, erotic, or pornographic will be deleted at the discretion of the Administrators and Moderators.

•Illegal Activity: Any posts deemed to encourage illegal activity will be removed at the staff’s discretion.

•Flaming: Flaming is defined by Wikipedia as the act of posting deliberately hostile messages on the Internet. Any behavior of a threatening nature will not be tolerated and anyone posting such material will be removed from the forum.

•Defamation and Libel: Posts or messages that are libelous, defamatory, or which disclose personal information of anyone other than yourself are prohibited.

•Posting PM’s: Private Messages are just that—private. They are not to be posted on the forum for others to read. Any such posts will be deleted.

•Discrimination: Discrimination based on sex, age, gender, race, sexual orientation, creed, color, occupation or any other type of discrimination will not be tolerated.

•Inappropriate Behavior: Excessive or sexual flirting in the forum is unacceptable. The forum’s focus in on writing. Threatening behavior is strictly forbidden and will be met with strict punishment.

•Post Titles, Forum Handles & Signatures: Post Titles, Forum Handles & Signatures must be PG rated. Please refrain from using profanity, obscene or unsuitable material. Questionable material will be censored or removed. Bear in mind you cannot change your handle. If it is inappropriate, it will be deleted.

•Fan Fiction: Please do not post any Fan Fiction. Due to copyright issues, this material is forbidden and will be deleted.

•Advertising: Advertising is prohibited. Any advertising beyond that of WVW’s or Forumotion.com will be removed. You may post a link to your website in your signature and in your personal information. If you have something to advertise that is writing related, please do so in any approved Category or Thread provided by WVW Writing Forum.

•Personal Information: Do not post personal information of any kind on the forum. If you must give someone your information, please do so utilizing PM.

•Duplicate Accounts: Only one account is allowed per person. If you share a computer or IP Address, please notify us so we don’t label it as a duplicate account.

•Duplicate Posts: Cross-Thread posting is not allowed. Please choose the most appropriate place for your post. Duplicates will be deleted at our discretion.

•Personal Liability: Please remember you are solely responsible for any material and content you post. It does not matter if you are responding to someone who has provoked you. You will be the one responsible for the posts you make.

Guidelines

•Thread Derailing: Threads are created to discuss a specific topic. If you would like to discuss something that does not pertain to the thread, create a new thread. Posts which take the discussion off topic are not allowed and are rude to the thread creator. Any such posts will be deleted. Consistently breaking this guideline can result in disciplinary action.

•Profanity and Adult Situations: In the interest of free speech, profanity and adult situations are allowed so long as there is a disclaimer warning the reader, and it is not excessive. This will be at the staff’s discretion.

•Thread Bumping: Please do not add a new post to your thread for the sake of bumping it back to the top. To do so forces your thread on those who have already chosen not to respond. Visitors/Members can still find your thread, as they are not deleted. Bumped threads will be moved or deleted.

•Flooding: Please do not flood the forum with submissions. Allow others the chance to post their work and have it responded to. Submit your work within a reasonable time-frame. Respect the other members.

•Post Length: Short posts (one or two words, one sentence), unless absolutely relevant will be deleted. While these may be relevant, excessive use is discouraged.

•Quoting other’s words: Quoting is encouraged to make a point, but please don’t quote several paragraphs then have only a one line response. Quote only enough to make your point.

•Proper Grammar: Chat speak or leet speak is not allowed. This is a writing forum, and all writing rules should be applied. Do not post material with grammatical mistakes. Please review all of your material before posting.

•Critique Conduct: When critiquing a piece for someone, remember to keep the comments focused on the work, not the author directly. Be respectful and try to put yourself in the author’s shoes to see how you would feel to receive that critique. When responding to someone in writing it can be difficult to determine the writer’s tone. Be sure to use clear language at all times.

Disciplinary Action:

WVW Writing Forum staff will warn those who violate the rules and guidelines. Everyone makes mistakes and we will be as understanding as possible, but habitual violators will be dealt with swiftly. In the event of threats or illegal action we will not hesitate to turn over material or IP and personal information to the authorities should the situation warrant such action.

Infractions will result in a warning by PM. Subsequent infractions will result in temporary bans, permanent bans and/or deletion of accounts.

If you are a WVW Member, please remember you represent the organization and your behavior on the forum reflects on you and WVW. If necessary, improper behavior on the forum can result in being banned from WVW, and membership can be withdrawn.
